What to Look for in Choosing a Contractor for Concrete Removal

Posted by wpadmin on Apr 12, 2019

Concrete is one of the toughest materials on earth. That is why it’s used in many types of construction, such as Big towers, office buildings, basements, driveways, sidewalks etc.  Things that are made from concrete are built to last.  There isn’t a better material out there in construction for providing a strong foundation and great support to structures that are heavy.

Sometimes though, concrete needs to be removed and broken down.  This is a huge challenge that you cannot take lightly.  You will need to find someone who is well versed in concrete removal.  They need to be able to break down and remove the concrete using the latest and greatest techniques.

Concrete has compressive strength. This means that concrete is built to withstand huge amounts of weight.  This comes from how concrete is made, and the materials used to create it.  Concrete is mainly made up from pulverized stones and cement that are combined to create a compact material.  It is not easy to remove once installed.

When you remove concrete, it produces a lot of debris! You will need to find a contractor that will take care of the debris cleanup. There are different regulations and bylaws in place when disposing of materials, and you don’t want to be on the hook if you don’t abide by them. Most of the time, they will have a bin on site, or may load a truck for dumping to make it easier. When asking for a quote or estimate of the work to be done, make sure they have disposal removal on the estimate, if not, ask them what the cost might be.

It is very important to know that your concrete removal contractor has the correct insurance before starting the job. You want to ask for copies of their current insurance, WCB coverage and any other certifications that might be helpful. Having a professional, licensed and certified contractor is essential and could save you big bucks in the long run. Additionally, it helps if the contractor can obtain all the right permits for the job if they are required.

References are everything and don’t forget to check out their portfolio. Checking into both will give you hints into what to expect on the job site. If a contractor will not provide you with references or a portfolio, you probably do not want to use them for your job.  A reputable company will provide you with references of current and or past job sites.

References are also a good indicator of safety standards.  You want to ensure that the company you are hiring has high safety standards and that they work in a safe environment.  Some jobs can be dangerous, depending on the scope of work.  Making sure the contractor you hire is safety conscious is a huge bonus.  Don’t forget that having company that’s safety conscious can also mean that the employees have the proper training to get the job done.
